Last week I launched a competition to see how long it takes someone to do a loop of Regents Park. This was later extended to Richmond Park after complaints the competition was too hard to enter (more on that below).
We had plenty of excellent entries and some incredible times. The average was around nine and a half minutes for Regents Park. I also gave this a go, to see what the Trek Madone could do. My time was 8 minutes 24 seconds. I was particularly lucky in my attempt to not get caught by any red lights.
I also measured my time on a Garmin 705 which gave much the same result.
I’d like to extend a huge thank you to everyone who entered. Some of the entries were on Brompton’s, Boris Bikes and I’m sure there was also a fair share of road bikes.
Thank you also to the Post Office for supplying the prize of a giftcard.
To decide the winner, it wasn’t a case of the best time, it came down to random numbers. Therefore, each entry was given a number in the order in which it was submitted and then random.org was used to find our winner.
Our winner is:
Number 12 – K. Mackie.
K. Mackie did a time of 10 minutes 20 seconds and recorded it using his helmet camera and YouTube.
I’ll be contacting the winner shortly. If I don’t receive a reply in a reasonable time then I’ll generate another random number.
Next competition
A few people complained that the competition was too hard to enter (needed a GPS, needed to go to Regents Park etc). Apologies! It was not my aim to restrict people from entering, more to have a little fun competition and see what times people can achieve. I’m sure those that did take part enjoyed the challenge. The next competition will be easier to enter. As always the competitions will remain free to enter (unlike certain unscrupulous competitions you see on television).

Andreas – I thought it was a great competition and thanks for setting it up. The laps gave me something to aim for so I did something a bit different than my normal routine and now I have set a time I am determined to beat it!
Keep up the good work.

Swain’s Lane is crying out for a bit of competition. I went up it on a Birs bike yesterday to see what it would be like and was regretting it before I even got to the cemetery gates!

I too enjoyed the competition and look forward to the next one..

I WON! 🙂
I was totally expecting to read someone-else’s name there. I’ve not received any email as yet, hope the spam filters haven’t eaten it.
I’ll have to try again on a road bike sometime and perhaps have a go at Richmond park too – It’d be nice to see a Richmond lap on youtube too.

Yep, I’m in Amsterdam for the weekend looking into their cycling culture hence the slowness in emailing you. I’ll be in touch as soon as I get back to arrange delivery. Congrats!
