I thought this would be a good one to the attention of anyone organising a charity ride.
UK based company Remote Asset Management are offering free GPS trackers to anyone organising a charity or endurance event.
Using a GPS system would be a good addition to a ride so that you can report back on your progress. If you are charity fund raising then this can make a great addition to your JustGiving page. Alternatively, if the ride is an endurance event then it can be a great way to get accurate results on your performance.
If this is of interest then contact details can be found on the Remote Asset Management charity page.

For some extra “lazy” charity work you could also get the Samsung Hope Relay app…

Great for people like me who like to extend the commute daily!
“Download the Samsung Hope Relay app now. For every mile you walk, run or cycle using the app Samsung will donate £1 to charities such as Kids Company and International Inspiration. “

Question of data usage: what is done with the data from generated from the use of the GPS tracker afterwards?
thanks.

This has got really bad reviews for cycling on the app store. Seems to work for running but not cycling. Often disallowing rides and claiming the average speed is higher than it was, and disallowing it.

GPS is really very useful if you are in an unfamiliar place.,

GPS technologies offer a great means by which parents can determine where their children are at any given moment. Tracking via GPS makes the old question “Do you know where your children are?” easily answerable, rather then just being rhetorical. GPS systems were developed by the government for intelligence and surveillance purposes. An array of satellites allows one to determine with amazing specificity the exact location of any person carrying a tracking device.*
