Just a few months ago I had a bike that was:
- Squeaking each time I pedalled up hill
- With brake pads that needed replacing
- A wobbly back wheel
- Full of road muck that I hadn’t found the time to clean off.
Then, I took it in for a visit at Lunar Cycles. Now:
- It runs better than the day I put it together
- It’s clean
- The rust has been scrapped away
- It doesn’t give a single squeak of complaint, whether I’m powering down the road or climbing up a hill
I guess I avoided taking my bike in for a service as I was worried I’d be paying over the odds and that it just wasn’t necessary. The problem was, I just didn’t know what happened behind the scenes. Fortunately, Lunar Cycles allowed me to see my bike being serviced and I even added a full write up with lots of pictures on London Cyclist.
Since then, a number of London Cyclist readers have visited the shop and have been impressed with the service.
In fact, the reviews of Lunar Cycles on Google Maps have been pretty stellar:
“YES! Finally, a PROPER bike repair shop that gives detailed, impartial advice….. They convinced me NOT to buy a new bike (but gave me some tips in case I did anyway). The two guys I saw were both lovely blokes, and it was nice of the technician to take the time to explain what he’d done – I learned a lot from the 15 minutes I spent with these guys. Honestly, can’t recommend them enough. They’re now my go-to guys.”
That’s the sort of review all businesses dream of!
Lunar Cycles recently got in touch with me to see if there would be a good way to work together to bring this level of service to London Cyclist readers. We decided we’d try out a deal, where you guys get an exclusive discount on bike servicing.
Lunar Cycles will take apart your bike, thoroughly clean it and put it back together, indexing and adjusting everything so that it works smoothly. They’ll even true your wheels, to make sure they are running as efficiently as possible.
If any parts need replacing, they’ll get in touch with you to check that you are happy with the cost, before going ahead with the repair.
This really is one of the most comprehensive bike services you’ll find in London. Normally bike shops charge around £70-£85 for a service like this and it isn’t as comprehensive at the one at Lunar Cycles.
The normal fee is £65, however – until next Thursday the 30th, you can get it for £37.90.
All you need to do is buy the service on the London Cyclist website and then call up the shop to book. You do need to buy through London Cyclist before Thursday, but there isn’t a restriction on when you have to take the bike in. If you’ve been meaning to give your bike some tender love and care, then it’s a great opportunity. Most mechanics recommend this sort of service once every six months for a bike. I think that’s a little extreme, but once per year is definitely a good number to aim for.
There are a couple of things that are not included. Obviously, if any components need replacing then these will need to be charged separately. However, Lunar Cycles will check with you first to see if you’d like to go ahead with it.
The service also doesn’t include servicing the hub bearings and headset – however, both of these will be checked for issues and you’ll be contacted to see if you’d like Lunar Cycles to deal with them.

Update: This needs to be redeemed within a year of purchase. Thanks to everyone in the comments who asked for clarification.
Any questions – ask them below. Otherwise, hit the buy button above!
P.S. This is the first time we’ve done this sort of deal on London Cyclist. I’m excited to be able to bring an exclusive discount for a service this comprehensive that I trust on my own bike, to my readers. If you’ve got any feedback on the deal then let me know below.
P.P.S. Lunar Cycles is in North London – you can see a Google Map on their website.

The service here is excellent – I took in my mother-in-law’s 1974 Schwinn last month, which has been in storage and unridden for more years than not since she bought it, and they did a fantastic job with it. The bike itself was in lovely condition anyway, but it needed new tyres, cables and a full service of the hub gear/bottom bracket since any grease had long since solidified. It now rides beautifully, and I’m much more confident about taking it back there in the future than any of the other ‘good’ bike shops I spoke to about it who either don’t service hub gears or were flummoxed by its unusual tyre size and didn’t exactly fill me with confidence. Highly recommended 🙂
Andreas says
Amanda – really pleased you had a great service there! It’s a real pleasure to discover a bike shop that treats customers so well.
Big Softy says
Never used Lunar, but the service you posted looks extremely thorough, almost to the point of obsessive, which is not a bad thing.
I’d recommend Edwardes of Camberwell if you’re south of the river, I’ve had excellent service and advice from them for 45 years. In fact I just picked up my new Mekk Primo from them earlier today with a 700 quid discount by way of apology for the 2 month delay due to problems with Customs.
I’d suggest you avoid Whites of Erith like the plague! Awful workmanship.
Andreas says
Thanks for the heads up on Edwardes – if this promotion is a big hit we’ll definitely try to partner up with more well loved bike shops.
Lens says
Really? Edwardes? I live very close by to this bike shop which is pretty much the only reason why I go there but I find the atmosphere in there, as a woman, really intimidating. The older gentleman (owner?) is really nice but the younger assistants can sometimes be quite dismissive and unhelpful – other times, they’re just a bit creepy. Please bear in mind this isn’t saying much about the service they provide on the bike itself – which is okay, even though they neglected to take out a piece of glass from my tyres meaning that I had to get my inner tubes replaced twice..
I just bought the offer for Lunar Cycles and I’m excited about getting a comprehensive bike service and, from reading all the reviews, friendly customer service as well.
Chris says
Yes, I’m a man and I find the younger guys in Edwardes a bit unhelpful/not very friendly. The older guy is much nicer. I’ve never had any work done there or bought a new bike so I can’t comment on that.
Cameron says
This is why independent bike shops are better than the chain-stores.
I use Micycle in N1 – they are always helpful and bike comes back brilliant every time. Its also handy I live 1 min walk from them 🙂
Andreas says
I absolutely love MiCycle too – especially their zen garden at the back!
Kate says
Amazing promotion you’ve got going here. I’d really like to be able to take advantage of it as my Penny needs a good seeing to but alas, it’s the end of the month and therefore am a bit skint so don’t know that I’ll be able to pay before Thursday. Although, I would be able to do so on Friday or possibly Thursday, when I get paid. Is this a possibility at all? Location-wise, it’s perfect for me as we are temporarily staying in Islington at a friend’s whilst waiting to move into our new place in SE. Normally, I would go to my regular guy at Paul’s Custom Cycles (excellent shop and service if you live in or around SE15 by the way), but it’s not really convenient at the moment.
Andreas says
We should be able to leave this open until Friday for you Kate – I’ll check with Hanry
Kate says
Many thanks, that’s a big help. Penny thanks you 🙂
Goonz says
This is a great offer, I will definitely be taking advantage of this as my bike is beginning to rattle a little and I will be attempting to ‘service’ the bike myself however if all goes pear shaped then I will have this back-up just in case!
So there is no time limit on when to have the bike serviced?
Andreas says
That’s right – as long as you’ve purchased by Thursday (or probably now Friday for Kate!) then you can “redeem” it whenever.
Update: Whenever = within 12 months of purchase date.
Kate says
…I’m really looking forward to the cleaning; in my experience shops don’t include that in their general service.
Andreas says
Yep – many shops charge extra for that!
Maak says
Andreas, could you please confirm the time limit of this “whenever” – I just called Lunar and they were not so sure about the idea of servicing a bike at some indefinite point in the future – fair enough. Problem is my bike won’t need servicing for another while…..
Andreas says
Hey Maak – apologies, we should probably put some kind of more reasonable figure on this other than “whenever” – redeem within a year. Sorry for not being more clear, this is the first time we’ve ran this kind of deal so we are still learning.
Goonz says
Brilliant, can I buy more than one?
Andreas says
Yep – when you hit the buy button it says how many do you want.
pete says
I’d like to second the recommendation for Paul’s Custom Cycles in Peckham. Really nice guy and excellent service.
Kate says
Awesome. And have you seen his speed demon of a bike? I’m always jealous and inspired looking at that thing.
pete says
I certainly have, am always tempted to ask Paul for a test drive !!!
Kate says
I’m always tempted to ask him to build one for me lol – after witnessing the successes in the Velodrome, I think I’m ready 🙂
sm says
Great offer – would like to see more of this. I’m anti-commerical most of the time but offers/promotions that reward exceptional service should be encouraged. BIke’s not ready for a service yet (touch wood) but when it is I’ll be off to lunar after reading all the positive feedback.
Andreas says
Thanks SM – pleased you like what we put together here 🙂

Hi there, great promotion!
I was already considering popping over to Lunar, so that was just the push I needed to finally try them.
I purchased one bike service, but how will they know I paid them when I book/show up? I wasn’t given a reference number in the PayPal email or on the final page with their contact details.
Hanry says
Hi Nico,
Look forward to meeting you, just bring a copy of the paypal email down when you bring the bike in and we can mark you down against the list of people who have booked a service.
Regards,
Hanry
Nico (@nfanget) says
Thanks Hanry, will see you soon!
Russell says
Went to have my bike serviced just the other week at Lunar Cycles.
Awesome service and great advise!
Shame the this offer wasn’t offered last week LOL! Still worth the money though.
Anyone know of any decent local bike shops in west???
Not that it’ll stop me going back up to Lunar again.
Hopey says
Hi there! This sounds like a great offer and I am keen to buy two. I have a Kona Caldera (hardtail MTB) and a Specialized commuter hybrid. Are they both covered by the offer or is it just for road bikes? Thanks
Hanry says
Hi There,
We service any bikes, so feel free to buy a service for both.
Regards,
Hanry
Kate says
Just bought mine. And in time as well so no need to extend to Friday just for me anymore! Calling up to book now 🙂
Cafewanda says
Just thought I would pop back to say I took my SS to them last Tuesday morning (2nd) for a service using the offer. As reported above I was talked through what would happen, I aired my concern about a problem I’d had with the rear wheel and that was reported on when I went to collect the bike that evening. Fortunately the only thing that needed attention was the chain which was replaced after discussion and I was happy to agree without hesitation.
I don’t recall seeing my tyres that clean in ages!! I did feel a twinge of shame at that.
I live over in South London, so it was a bit of a trek to get to Lunar Cycles and, whilst I get very good service from my local, I was happy to make the journey and will probably take my roadbike to them for a full service during it’s winter ‘down time’.
Very well done LC!!
Andreas says
Very pleased to read you were happy with the service! I definitely want to partner up with some more bike shops in future – it’s a case of finding shops that offer a service as comprehensive as Lunar Cycles.
