Boris Johnson is to follow up on his campaign pledge of allowing motorbikes in bus lanes of London which is usually the domain of cyclists and buses. He has decided to do this after successfully results in Bristol. I am a bit fearful of this change and what it will mean for safety on the roads and encouraging more people to take up cycling. Surely the people that should most be supported should be cyclists as they are the most eco-friendly mode of transport? What does everyone think of this?

Great idea!Space is precious in London and getting from A to B in the shortest time possible is what roads are all about, right?Boris should make more cycle lanes for those who do not value time and comfort or think that roads equal gyms.

This is a disaster! And I am happy to say the London Cycling Campaign is running a campaign and petition against it – http://www.lcc.org.uk/index.asp?PageID=1145
As if cyclists in London were not already in enough danger from cycle and bus lanes which suddenly and randomly stop, aggressive taxi and other car drivers, unseeing bus and lorry drivers, now we are being put at risk from motorbikes who already often take the law into their own hands anyway.
Dedicated cycle lanes is what we need – and then let motorbikes share lanes with buses and taxis, while cyclists continue safely, quickly, and cleanly on their way.
