Debbie & Nick Sumner purchased the Wissett Plough in April 2007. Food is available every weekday from 12 noon to 2 pm and 6 pm to 9 pm. On Saturdays and Sundays they serve food all day from 12 noon till 9 pm. There is also a take-away service for fish and chips and burgers and sausages.
Sounds lovely doesn’t it?
But probably not too different from your everyday pub. However, there is something a bit special about this pub, if you are a cyclist. It is part of the Suffolk Bike Aid scheme. This means, if you get a puncture and happen to be within short distance from the pub, then you can pop in and they’ll lend you a puncture repair kit.
The kit contains:
1 pump with hose
1 Schrader/Woods tyre valve adaptor
1 puncture repair kit: patches and glue
3 tyre levers (metal)
1 flat or box multi spanner
And normally it has been donated by a local cyclist from any spare tools they may have.
Currently tool kits are available in around 10 locations but the Suffolk Bike Aid scheme is slowly expanding. Pubs, cafes and shops are welcome to join.
The scheme seems like an excellent community initiative and will no doubt help a number of cyclists. Hopefully, it will work its way down to London too.
