There’s a new documentary currently being researched for Channel 4 on street crime. Part of the focus of the program will be on the rising problem of bicycle theft.
Ideally, the program is looking to interview and follow someone who has just had their bike stolen and is working through the different methods of trying to find it. (I.e. exactly this post: Miraculous story of how one Londoner recovered his stolen bike.)
However, the event needs to be current. So if you are unlucky enough to have your bike stolen in the next few weeks (what a horrible thought!) then keep in mind John Owens from RDF Television, the company producing the show. You can get in touch with him here: john.owens@rdftelevision.com
The show will also be looking at different methods the public can protect their bikes with GPS trackers and so forth. The producer also seemed interested especially in the police response as it seems to be a crime that receives little to no attention.

how the heck did that happen?! its the place anyone would want to steal a bike, its swarming with security guards…although I’ll will take extra care now when I lock up there for work.
where abouts on the estate was it taken?
yeah, even I was of same view before my bike was stolen, but I still believe that Canary Wharf is relatively safer compared to other places across the city. The bike was stolen from bike parking slot near Corney and Barrow pub, adjacent to One Cabot Square.
You have to be deluded if you think “secure” Parking exists in as amny place that claim to have it. CCTV cameras and minimum wage rent-a-guards AKA are not enough of a deterrent. When the cameras are needed, you the victim cannot see the footage due to data protection….that’s right folks! the hooded baseball cap wearing criminals that stole your property get protection. That is even assuming that the cameras have picked up footage that is good enough to be of any use at all.
I know of many that spend a fair whack on rent living in apartments with concierge and cameras and still have the building robbed. If you’re leaving your bike for more than an hour then take it with you. If you’re not allowed, then walk away. Most the guards are oblivious as to the threat seeing themselves are would be Clark Kents, they have little idea of the expense of bikes, don’t get paid enough to do much than call the police and stay sat eating hob nobs. They don’t really care.
I”m a security officer . One of the sites I cover is a large office block which has had a large problem with bike thevies who seem to know when the previous months cctv footage has been wiped. Also the customer finds other things for us to do such as manning the reception, booking taxis ect. As ror tackling tooled up bike thevies not for £6.08 p/h thanks.
I am sorry about that. I hope that later on we can find ways to avoid stolen bike. Well. we all know that it can be easily. Sounds exciting!!
