Completing our local bike shop themed tour of the compass points, this week we go West. Next week we will finish up by going into the centre.
West London is a somewhat strange and unfamiliar land to me, I admit to not having spent much time there. I am definitely a North East dweller, although there are certainly a lot of bike shops to choose from out West, we have a hard time picking! Without forth ado, here is our pick of 5 of the best local bike shops in West London.
Moore’s Cycles
Twickenham: 61 London Road, Twickenham, TW1 3SZ TEL: 020 8744 0175
Teddington: 214 Kingston Road, Teddington, TW11 9JF TEL: 020 8977 2925
Isleworth: 3-5 St. Johns Road, Isleworth, TW7 6NA TEL: 020 8560 7131
These guys have 3 shops in (South) West London and have been selling and maintaining bikes for 65 years now. Each of the stores is well stocked with a full range of bikes and accessories. They have a great range of kids cycling things as well. Their workshops offer a full range of servicing at pretty reasonable prices and you can book your bike in. The price for labor inner tube replacement, ie. flat repair is only £10 which is very reasonable.
Moore’s also have rental bikes, so if you were thinking about cycling around Richmond park or along the river, but don’t want to take your own bikes, then these guys are worth checking out. You can even hire a tandem, perfect if you want to check compatibility between you and your riding partner!
London Cycle Workshop
Hammersmith: 373 King Street, Hammersmith, W6 9NJ. Tel: 020 8834 7247.
Battersea: 125 St John’s Hill, Battersea, SW11 1SZ. Tel: 020 3441 1044.
There are two branches of this business, one in Battersea and one in Hammersmith. They specialise in all kinds of servicing and repair. They also have accessories for upgrades and general wear and tear replacements. The guys are really friendly and happy to talk through the things on your bike with you.
Not only do they do great bike servicing, they also have courtesy bikes should you need your bike during the day. Finally, if you are going away with your bike, London Cycle Workshop have bike boxes for hire for a very good price, and a friendly postcard!
Broadway bikes
250 West Hendon Broadway, London, England NW9 6AG Tel: 0208 202 4671 / 0208 931 3925
This is a small bike shop in Hendon with a very friendly and open vibe. Their workshop is pretty casual and can handle most repairs you drop off with them, even getting bikes fixed over the weekend so you can commute in comfort during the week.
They have a full range of bikes for every kind of rider, young ones included. They also have a good range of accessories so you can up grade as you go along if you wish. They also deal with the Cycle Scheme, so you can get your bike for work through them.
Bicycle Repair Station
2A goldsmith road W3 6PX London Tel: 020 3556 5384
17 the vale w3 7SH London Tel: 020 8749 7344
These guys also have two locations, both in Acton. They specialise in repairs as well as sales of bikes and accessories. They stock Hoffa bikes, so if you are after a good single speed for city commuting then these guys can sort you out. Accessories wise, they have a good range, including Portland Design Works, one of our favourites for awesome mudguards, beautiful bottle cages and my favourite bell ever!
They also have a bike recovery service to free your bike should your lock get jammed or you lose your key. Handy.
Cycle Junxion
This independent bike shop in Fulham has a great range of bikes and accessories. It has only been open a couple of years, but seems to have already built up a firm following. They stock bikes from Raleigh, Giant and Charge, to name a few. Therefore, if you are after a bike for commuting and exploring London, they should have you covered. Servicing wise they also offer a good range and can deal with any bike. They are open until 7 during the week so you can pick up/drop off your bike after work.
They also have a great range of electric bikes, including some pretty cool looking mountain bikes. Maybe not necessary for the commute, but awesome for getting out of London at the weekend, especially if you are not used to hills!
What are your favourite West London bike shops?

West Hendon is West London?!
Hope you’ll be covering central NW London (NW3/NW6/NW10) some time soon. There seems to be a dearth of reliable repair shops in this area. I have to trek to Waterloo or over to near Grays Inn Rd!

Bicycle Workshop at 27 All Saints Road, W11 is well worth a visit. They don’t sell bikes but have lots of accessories and components as well as lots of excellent advice. Their workshop is in the front of the shop, so you can see the mechanics working on your pride and joy. If you turn up early on a Saturday morning (before 7:30) you can get a repair done on the day, otherwise you may have to wait a while.

the Bicycle Workshop in All Saints Road W11. Very friendly, very experienced. http://www.bicycleworkshop.co.uk.
It’s a long wait to book in for a service but they have a drop in for Saturdays with queues to book in at 7.30.

+1 for Bicycle Workshop in Notting Hill as well. One of the few places around with skills and knowledge to fix hub gears.

+ 1 for Bicycle workshop. Worth the wait for a full service. They’ve looked after my bike for so long that it now requires ‘vintage’ parts – they can source those, and charge very fair prices for them. They really love bikes and it shows. I’m still grateful to the neighbour who recommended them to me 20 years ago!

I’m very fond of HALFPIPE in the Golborne Rd, W10 5PR. They fixed my bike up very nicely earlier this year – always have a coffee on the go and are real people who just love bikes.
They also pronounced my pedals fine after a good service despite the fact that I had agreed to change them, so saved me money. Good service.
What’s not to like?
