There are so many great little bike shops in London. Some are specialists in a certain type of bike. Others are more focused on maintenance and repair. Most sell a good range of accessories for impromptu upgrades or planned revamps. North London is our stomping ground (with some North-East thrown in recently) and so we have visited many shops in this area.
We will be covering other areas of London in the coming weeks but for now, these 5 are our personal favourites in North London.
Lunar Cycles
Arch 66 Wilkin St. Mews, NW5 3NN Tel: 020 7482 1515
Based in Kentish Town, Lunar is a pretty awesome shop. They offer a full range of repair services at reasonable prices. They also have a good range of all the accessories you might need for a bike, whether you are looking to upgrade a part or bring an old disused bike back to life (like we did here). It is conveniently located next to Camden Town brewery, so if you need to kill some time waiting for a repair to be done then you have a place to chill.
Micycle
Micycle N1:
47 Barnsbury Street London N1 1TP Tel: 0207 684 0671
Micycle N4:
8 Ferme Park Road London N4 4ED Tel:0208 347 9180
Micycle East:
58 Southgate Road London N1 3JF Tel:0207 249 1212
Micycle has 3 locations around Islington: Micycle N1, Micycle N4 and Micycle East. They offer servicing and some pretty nice bikes and parts. The location in N1 has a cafe in the garden, and the East location has a front patio for some chilling while your bike is being serviced. They offer maintenance courses, a bike wash and also allow you to use their workshops for a yearly membership charge. If you have wanted to do your own maintenance or accessory fitting but can’t get away with it in your flat, this is the place to go.
The Red Bike Shop
232 St. Pauls Road, N1 2LJ Tel: 0207 226 2066
A lovely little bike shop located in Highbury. They have a solid range of bikes and accessories and a great servicing department. It is conveniently located near Highbury Fields, Cannonbury and Essex road, and they are open until 7pm meaning it handily serves a large commuting population. There is also the intention to convert the back of the shop which opens onto a garden, expanding they sales floor and making a great hangout space for summer bike gatherings.
Bike House
10, Fortess Road, NW5 2ES Tel: 0207 267 7399
Bike House is located on the edge of Kentish Town and Tufnell park. It has a full range of servicing available and a huge range of bikes and accessories. They have a substantial range of children’s bikes and accessories too. It is situated on a popular commuting route and has long opening hours, reflecting their desire to be as useful as possible. I used to cycle past this shop every morning and they always seemed to be open or opening up, even if I had to get into town super early. The staff are helpful and not pretentious in anyway – not something that you get in every bike shop.
Electric Bike Sales
183 York Way, N7 9LN Tel: 02074 822892
As is fairly evident from the name, this bike shop specialises in electric bikes. They have a good range of electric bikes, whether you are in the market for a casual cruiser or a more upmarket performer. They also have kits for retro fitting an electric hub to a Brompton.
What is your favourite bike shop in North London?

Bike and Run, East Finchley, good, fairly upmarket stock. Knowledgeable and helpful. Service department http://www.bikeandrun.co.uk/
Muswell Hill bikes – more a workshop and family bike shop than a lycra warrior shop. Friendly http://www.muswellhillbikes.co.uk/

Electric Bike Sales has been closed for the past couple of years. It is now a coffee shop.

You will find the shop just across the street. Corner of Brecknock road with Camden road. There is a bicycle park outside in that corner with a sign. If you use the break, that is the doorbell. Terry’s number is also on that sign.
He is always there!
