I’ll start us off..
My favourite place to cycle to in London is the National Theatre on Southbank as it’s a great place to grab a coffee and open up the laptop to get on with some work without distractions (such as writing the London Cyclist Handbook!).
Around the quiet country lanes in my local area
Jesmond Dene
A lot has been written about warm summer days and there are certainly some lovely places in London which look a whole lot nicer in bright sunshine.
But for me on a late afternoon in early winter, perhaps in late November, with the lingering tang of a bonfire hanging on a still fading day can there be anything more pleasant on my way home from a Christmas shopping expedition as spotting the warm glow from the cafe on Peckham Rye where I pull over for a large cup of tea or coffee and the biggest slice of carrot cake you can ever even imagine. Before the final five miles home.
Heaven on earth!
My favourite cycling spot has to be along the regents canal, especially the spot between angel to mile end. The camraderie between cyclists and pedestrians along the towpath, the cafe’s right on the waters edge and background scenery of changing london.
yes! agreed (I wrote the same below before reading your post!)
to my local park
Late at night when there’s no traffic, around my local area where it’s quiet and chilled out.
Marriotts Way
Late on a school night (minimal traffic) heading home from Waterloo bridge -> Kennington Road -> Brixton.
My favourite place is my commute home. Enjoyable climb up Haverstock hill, dodging the Hampstead 4×4’s then across the pond, picking up speed by the Heath, perhaps popping in the Spaniards Inn for a pint, then full speed down Bishops Avenue. Love it!
I love to cycle to Borough Market to sample all of the amazing food!
to work and back and weekend with my club
From the tube station to home!
Returning home on the last tube after a long day/night out, so glad that I don’t have to walk or catch the bus that I could just give my bike a massive hug.
My favourite spot is the Thames River Path. Quiet, off road, lots of cyclists, and I love that you can smell the flowers in the summer, and that “river smell” when the tide is high. And the sunsets, the pubs, the rowing clubs, the whole river atmosphere. It’s quiet but also full of life.
Along the River Lea. It’s a short cycle from our house to Tottenham Marshes. However far up or down you go, you’re guaranteed peace & quiet, the smell of woodsmoke from the stoves on the river boats, lots of wildlife – and it’s flat! Splendid.
Easy – Olympic Park! Going to be even better come Games Time! Great article on this subject only the other day..!
In Swaledale, from Keld down the valley. With a tailwind you needn’t pedal for 10 miles or so!
Richmond Park on the smooth tarmac speeding along with the wind in your hair..
Hyde Park offers a welcome respite from cenral London traffic. Laid-back atmosphere of course, look out for the pedestrians 😉
In Summer I love to cycle along the regent’s canal from Angel to London Fields with my housemate (watching out for pedestrians and low bridges!), then stop off at a pub for a couple of lagers and an ice cream in the park. Perfect sunday cycle trip!
hyde park!
I love to ride on the canal paths around where I live – sometimes with a stop off for a cheeky pint!
Hyde park, around Regents park
So many places to choose….
My current favourite London ride because it’s so green and due to it’s speed for getting cross town (typically from Angel to Goodge St and then onto the west end/hyde park) is the bike path that goes past Gordon Square – avoiding both Euston Rd and Oxford St!
Otherwise can’t beat riding across Tower Bridge when you time the lights right and get a clean run over. Can’t get that anywhere else in the the world!
I love to cycle around Llandegla Moors in North Wales!
Around Regents Park on a sunny day 🙂
I love to cycle along the canal near to where I live
Tooting Common – it’s a beautiful common
I love cycling along the sea near my house
I love to do cycling in a resort here in Rushden. Sorry I forgot the name
fathing downs in coulsdon
i dont live in london but i do like to bike to work in the warmer months. not when its raining though!
I love cycling parallel to the Thames from Westminster (Big Ben) till Aldgate station, as it gives you a chance to ride alongside worlds greatest Victorian era architecture and contrastingly swanky high rises till you get a glimpse of Tower Gateway.
Next to the Thames
Richmond Park is my favourite place
Chelsea Embankment – quiet and the scene of Chelsea/ Battersea is beautiful.
cycling to my local beach! love having a beach in my village! 🙂
I love to cycle around Binley Woods in Coventry. There are some great offroad trails and it’s a great safe place to take the kids on their bikes
birkenhead park is a great place to cycle in, after all the New Yorkers pinched the design!!!!! So much to see and cycle around
